Margret Atwood is one of the best Canadian writers ever! Her writing and choice of words paints compelling pictures of her stories.

As one of those strange people who struggles with the short story (I clamber in & then suddenly, just as I've got comfortable, I'm out the other side), I'm intrigued by these two extracts, particularly the second. Thanks for the tip, John. Off to Amamzon...

Atwood is amazing and Wilderness Tips is one of her best short story collections. If you haven't read one of her novels, let me suggest "The Blind Assassin" for which she won a richly deserved Booker prize.

Here's a nice Atwood video retrospective on the CBC website:

The best clip from the page above is this one:

I like Atwood because you never know what genre she is going to tackle next. I have enjoyed all I have read so far. Thanks for this - I am always looking for a short story collection to fill those 'attention span of a stapler' days.

That's damn good writing. I confess that I've never read Margaret Atwood, but I will.
She leaves "man" like a dead insect, pinned in a glass case, with a few well chosen phrases and words.
She leaves me wishing that I could write like that.
Thanks John.

jb says: She's good. Not always, of course, but it would be a mistake to discount her.
