The scared are the Bravest. The cowards hold their tongues. The weak fall with the critiques. The mindless hold on to the obvious. The REAL seek the truth and hold tight to what is right. Freedom of speech! The insecure attack the brave and repeat the words of others because they are afraid to be Dixie Chicked! We all should live to be Dixie Chicked then you know your living.

I'm from a family of military veterans. A lot of folks thinks that means I'd be against what these women had to say, but my brothers served their country & I think they did so to uphold the contstitution and amendments - including freedom of speech. I'm just happy there are still people with the guts (and brains) to speak their mind.

I agree -- awesome women. And it is abhorrent what Clear-Channel has done, and equally regrettable how few people know about it, how paltry the coverage of Clear-Channel's actions have been.

I never, ever thought I could see myself buying one of their CDs, but now I would do so and not just to show them support -- but because from what I've heard of their new music, and what I've heard from critics and others, their music has really matured and this new CD is pretty good.

Transformation is beautiful.

Oh, and how I love when other women make me proud.

'Good post, John.

Clear-Channel are America's largest radio conglomerate, owning somewhere in the region of 1200 radio stations. Back in 2003, during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq they organised and paid for a number of pro-war rallies. Supporters of the war descended on cities from Fort Wayne to Cleveland, and Atlanta to Philadelphia. Waving flags, messages of support for the troops — and also banners attacking liberals, excoriating the UN and in one case, advising: Bomb France Now. Clear Channel paid for the advertising costs and for the hire of musicians for the rallies.
In the UK they own around 80 poster, billboard and taxi advertising companies. Through subsidiary and holding companies they manage personalities like David Beckham, Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, Gary Lineker, Greg Norman, Michael Owen, Nasser Hussain, and Alan Shearer.
In the same way they promote music by: U2, Mötley Crüe, David Gray, The Prodigy, Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode.

Interesting group indeed. I read, in an article by Geoff Olson in the June issue of Common Ground, that it wasn't a citizen protest of them as much as an organized protest staged by radio stations owned by Clear-Channel.

I have always been a fan and own all of their CDs. I'm a huge advocate of free speech, and I just think it was terrible how people treated them. They are truly talented.
