Very descriptive , I actually felt sympathy for the woman , as if I want to go to her and offer some comfort at the same time feel a bit hesitant because she might rebuff my overtures. It's a little sad that as a society especially in modern urban settings people tend to keep to themselves and even in the light of situations like these we still keep our distance instead of reaching out a comforting hand

Nice to see magic realism is alive and well and living in York. Love the new layout, reminds me a bit of O2 mind.

At first this post put me in mind of one from Dick Jones at Patteran Pages last year: the flow of backed-up traffic kept his vehicle alongside that of a sobbing woman, and he speculated and worried about her in a similar way. But then this becomes a different animal. Fascinating.

And it's remarkable that human beings still can touch each other in this deep way, that we remain so sensitive to the emotions of our fellows, even strangers.

jb says: Hi Sam. I don't remember Dick's post. Must look it up. I do read his blog, though, so it could've been one of those subconscious things. And, yes, the touching. We seem to be desensitized to more with the passing of each generation, yet when it comes to face-to-face suffering we can still manage empathy and compassion.
