— The Dixie Chicks
Since one of the Dixie Chicks said that she was ashamed to come from the same state as George Bush, back in 2003, the group have seen ex-fans bring their CDs to be crushed by a bulldozer, they’ve been boycotted from many American radio stations and received death threats.
On the eve of the invasion of Iraq at a concert at the Sheperd’s Bush Empire in London, between songs, Natalie Maines told the audience: Just so you know, we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.
Later, she said, I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world.
This is a video of their new single, Not Ready to Make Nice, and other songs from Taking the Long Way, their new album.

We actually had things to say this time, says Natalie Maines. This is really the first time we’ve written songs where we’re vulnerable and just totally putting it out there without worrying about personal criticism.
This is a gutsy and angry performance from three women who gave us little more than bubble-gum music before they were subjected to the ire of their country-music fans.
