I don't know if I should take you seriously, Hank. Your second sentence is quite metaphorical, no? "Metaphors give people an illusion of understanding when they still have no clue."
Language is about metaphor. Metaphor is all we have. There is nothing else.

I don't like metaphors. They give people an illusion of understanding when they still have no clue. Then they try to reason from the metaphor, draw incorrect conclusions, and have high confidence in these incorrect conclusions. I prefer to describe things as they are, but vastly oversimplified, with a few disclaimers thrown in to the effect that I am vastly oversimplifying.

Were on earth do you find these things, my sides are just hurting from laughing, its good to laugh helps take away the stresses in life. I just love what the Rev had to say, he is so right the comments that came out during is campaigning was just too much and who would have thought that America would ever have a black President, and look at them now, his is a good man and going to do good things I believe.

“Americans have different ways of saying things. They say elevator, we say lift. . . they say President, we say stupid psychopathic git. . . .”

    British comedian Alexi Sayle

Brilliant and so so so very true, but ya gotta just love them.

You don't know the half of it. Mr. Obama's middle name is Hussein and he is...wait for it...a black man. The neocons over here are already hanging out dirty laundry and claiming it's his. Should be one hell of an election cycle. Enjoy the show.

jb says: Hi Rev. I can see you're a man who enjoys a good show.

free association, no president involved

Like a knife come to slit my ties to the past
To all the things which bind me to the grave,
you came
You came in the morning after a long night....

Mia Doi Todd Lyrics

jb says: Yeah, time and change are fine, we should never oppose them. But if I see a better way . . . if I glimpse a way which may involve us all rather than marginalize the majority . . .

I am John, I am. And thanks for making me LOL!

I see that Mrs Clinton is in the running for the next round... But with serious competition within her own camp - Barack Obama.

I wonder what the future will bring us? I'm not even up for betting (not that I ever am) on who will replace Blair for future UK/US tete a tetes.

But I do think that Conran's Butler's Wharf based restaurant empire has now seen its better days. They'll go Ramsay or Oliver's "15" this time, surely? All chefs need to start sharpening their knives. Downing Street is about to see change and I suspect that Gordon is a darker horse than the dark horse.

So, back to hanging in there. It's not me; I'll survive. But I reckon parliament will be hanging in the future. Nothing like a hung parliament to perk the beans of everyone's political thought...

jb says: A hung parliament? Neat little return to semantics, there, cfr. Also, don't know anything about him, but I don't believe anyone called Barack Obama could be elected as the P of the USA at this stage of the game. Surely the guy would have to change his name?
