Today we were at a new gallery to see the work of Ruth King, Peter Baker and Alex Cooper. We were easily tempted to buy one of Ruth King’s pots -

Ruth King - saltglaze ceramic

- and intrigued by the work of York based, Peter Baker (no relation), who uses marble dust and plaster to coat the faces of individual house bricks, with striking and thought-provoking results.

Starting Point

I use the brick for it’s symbolic and metaphorical references as much as it’s sound engineering qualities. In fact I see it as representing the building blocks of life, and as a means of forming our cultural and social identity.
