Five Questions: Fade Theory

1. Why do you blog?
Initially it was to keep in touch with friends and family while overseas, but I’ve been back now for close to a year. I continued to blog upon my return because I enjoy it. I also have a compulsion to write.

2. Which author and/or book has most influenced you?
Ten years ago I would have said Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. These days it’s One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. If On A Winter’s Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino is up there, too.

3. Which three blogs do you most visit?
I read well over 100 blogs on a daily basis. My three favorites are:
Drawn! The Illustration and Cartooning Blog at: drawn.ca
Alex Ross: The Rest Is Noise at: www.therestisnoise.com
Moleskinerie at: www.moleskinerie.com

4. Why do you read fiction?
For the most part I’m a pessimist, so I can’t easily explain the strange hopefulness I feel while reading fiction. I don’t think any single novel offers what I unconsciously look for while reading, but many of the books I’ve read have bits and pieces of truth and beauty. That sounds terribly cliched, but I don’t care. (Did I mention I’m negative and contrary?)

5. What makes you laugh?
In spite of the whole pessimist, negative, contrary thing, I laugh quite a bit. Granted, I do a lot of laughing at. But, seriously, I have only one failsafe for laughter: my husband. The man can make me laugh.

  1. Lee

How do you find time to read fiction and over 100 blogs a day? I’m not sure whether to be impressed or exhausted by proxy.

  2. John P Matthew

The more and more writers write about blogging, the more and more I like what I read. Truly a very good idea well executed, John.
