Reflections of a working writer and reader

Five Questions: Demob Happy Teacher

1. Why do you blog?
I started blogging because I wanted somewhere to sound off about the world of teaching as I was experiencing it at a time when I was very unhappy in the job and with the world of education. It soon became a bit of an addiction, although, I have to say, a lot of the time devoted to it was spent on making disastrous mistakes with html when trying to alter things on the template without having backed it up first!

2. Which author and/or book has most influenced you?
In relation to my other writing, I would say Anne Tyler and Elizabeth Buchan.

3. Which three blogs do you most visit?
Gemmak who began blogging around the same time as me and was the first one I started reading regularly.
Beachhutman a talented, erudite man with an ascerbic wit and a fellow Radio 4 enthusiast.
Dale a Canadian train driver and amateur actor.

4. Why do you read fiction?
Partly as a form of escapism but also to learn about writing. It’s a bit like observing other teachers – there is always something to learn from others, even the first year students.

5. What makes you laugh?
Keith, my partner. We laugh a lot together, but also Morecambe and Wise, Victoria Wood, Ab. Fab., The Office, Operation Goodguy, oh and elephant jokes – still not left my childhood behind, I suppose!
