Back to the real business

Blogging about books and writing. It’s good to know that the site is coming along and to feel fair to middling pleasure that it doesn’t look a complete disaster. It won’t be right for some time, of course, because there’s still a dozen little things that need attention. But I’m constantly reminded that all of these things are distractions from the real business. I believe it was Robert Frost who said, Talking is a hydrant in the yard and writing is a faucet upstairs in the house. Opening the first takes all the pressure off the second.

On the other hand, immersing oneself in a process like this, setting up a new blog, does lead one to look at other people’s efforts. And the result is a kind of waterfall of new ideas and possibilities that could keep one preoccupied for far too long.

And I know what you mean about the little things. Congrats on getting down to the business in your new bloghome.

John I like your new blog layout. I’ve been busy so I haven’t had a chance to check out the site after I reciprocated the link. :)

Little things and site mechanics usually take up a lot of my time - I’m trying to format my page into a 3 columns but that will have to wait. I don’t want it to get in the way of my reading and writing. Just finished re-reading To Kill A Mockingbird, working on Let Me Know When The Train’s Gone (James Baldwin) and a book by Professor Yoshino of Yale on the hidden assault of out civil rights, called Covering.

    Take care.

John, I like the look of your blog–colors, links to topics, and your blogroll panel. Nice.
