A Writing Quote

You might have noticed this addition to the site - over there on the right, in the sidebar. It’s a simple and effective little tool, developed by Simple Thoughts for WordPress, but which can also be adapted for use with other blogging software.
This implementation draws on a text file of quotations, about writing or by writers, that I have collected over the years. A quotation is randomly selected every time you reload the site.
If you have an apt writing quote, please send it along and I’ll add it to the file.

Cool thing! I’ll see if I can’t find any good quotes for you. I like quotes, too.

    A very nice idea.
I’d have to add the classic ‘”Writers write” - anon’ which, for me at least, absolutely hits the nail on the head, and I wish I could go back 10 years and shout it at Me in the street.
Another one I always liked, equally simple and anonymous in origin, is the slightly macabre ‘Fear Your Babies’. In other words, the turns of phrase that you’re most proud of as you write are probably the ones that come back to bite or ridicule you later….

A few writing-related quotes (I hope you don’t dislike cats):

I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat. ~ Edgar Allan Poe

For a dyed-in-the-wool author nothing is as dead as a book once it is written…She is rather like a cat whose kittens have grown up. While they were a-growing she was passionately interested in them but now they seem hardly to belong to her - and probably she is involved with another batch of kittens as I am involved with other writing. ~ Rumer Godden

Cats are dangerous companions for writers because cat watching is a near-perfect method of writing avoidance. ~ Dan Greenberg

If you want to be a psychological novelist and write about human beings, the best thing you can do is keep a pair of cats. ~ Aldous Huxley

Perhaps cats and writers simply go together because the cat is the perfect companion for the solitary, sedentary artist. ~ Linda Sunshine

And if I did dislike cats, do you think I’d admit it in public?
I have experienced suicidal moments in my life, but at the moment I’d like to live a little longer.

I like a quote that I think was written on this blog at some point.
Finnishing a book is like taking a child into the back yard and shooting it!

    Mark Twain said this….
“All you need in life is ignorance and confidence and then succuss is sure”

Not sure if you have these from before but I like them.

About Writing:

I have no theory of stories, just a theory for each story I write. A particular form is right for a given story and that's all. I don't like generalizations about literature - I think the general is the enemy of the particular and the particular is the friend of the writer. Tobias Wolff
