Hello John. I took 2666 on a holiday to Rome and Sicily, supposing it would be good to have one big book I wouldn't be likely to finish over 15 days. I have just returned home and began "The part about Fate" on the return flight. So far I am overwhelmed by the story-telling and literary gymnastics Bolano is (was) capable of. It is a brilliant piece of writing. Sometimes I have the feeling that Bolano is capable of and doing what giants like Mann and Musil did in their time, kind of the bohemian, hep version, able to get away with more, both in style and content, than was possible (or even imagined) in the 19th and early 20th centuries. He stands on their shoulders and reaches higher than in their dreams.

jb says: Hi Don, so glad you're enjoying it. It is, as you rightly say, overwhelming, but at the same time totally absorbing and never less than a page-turner. I won't say more, as you still have the best parts of the book to discover.
